Die and base upright monuments
Six top shapes, two standard tablet sizes, four base finishes and all 58 granite colors. You approve the proof before production starts, and we ship direct to the cemetery.
Die and base
An upright monument has two parts: the die, the upright tablet that carries the inscription and design, and the base, the wider stone it sits on. You choose the die shape, size, color and finish; the base matches unless you ask otherwise. Both are drawn on the proof.
Top shapes
The top of the die sets the character of the monument. Choose from 6 shapes.
Serpentine
A gentle S-curve across the top edge.
Oval
A single smooth arc.
Straight
A flat, squared top.
Ridge
Slopes up from front and back to a ridge along the length.
Apex
Rises to a point at the center.
Roof
Two flat pitches meeting at a peak, like a roofline.
Sizes
Standard tablet sizes in inches, width x depth x height. Check the cemetery's size limits before you choose. Upright monuments take 6 to 8 weeks after you approve the proof.
Single upright
Die 24 x 8 x 24 on a 34 x 14 x 8 base
Double upright
Die 42 x 8 x 24 on a 54 x 14 x 8 base
Custom
Any size the cemetery allows, quoted on the proof
Bases and polish
Choose a base finish and how many faces of the die are polished. Rock pitch is the rough, hand-split edge. The codes below are the ones you will see on the proof; there is no Polish 4, and Polish 5 adds both ends to Polish 3.
Standard base
Polished top, rock pitch sides. Proof code: BRP.
Polished margin base
Polished top with a 2 in. polished margin, rock pitch sides. Proof code: PM.
Polished bevel base
Polished bevel front, rock pitch sides with rock nosing. Proof code: PB.
All-polished base
Polished on every face. Proof code: Pol. 5.
Polish 1
Front polished. Proof code: Pol. 1.
Polish 2
Front and back polished. Proof code: Pol. 2.
Polish 3
Front, back and top polished. Proof code: Pol. 3.
Polish 5
Front, back, top and both ends polished. Proof code: Pol. 5.
